Step into the historic Namidabashi Oshima Lantern Workshop, a family-run business that dates back to the Edo period. Under the guidance of a skilled artisan, you will learn about the history of Japanese lanterns and the unique features of Edo-style hand-painted lanterns.
You can choose from two lantern shapes: egg-shaped (Φ12×25 cm) or long-shaped (Φ7.5×25 cm). Watch as the artisan carefully outlines your selected character (1–2 kanji, hiragana, or katakana) on the lantern. Then, use a brush to trace the black outlines and fill in the design with your preferred colors (approximately 10 colors available).
No painting experience is required, making this activity suitable for all ages and skill levels. After completing your work, you can take your one-of-a-kind lantern home as a special souvenir from your Tokyo trip.
